Claddagh Shamrock Knotwork Locket
Originating from 16th Century Galway, the Irish Claddagh with it two hands clasping a heart surmounted by a crown represents: Love (the heart), Loyalty (the crown) and Friendship (the hands). The Shamrock, one of Ireland’s oldest symbols, is inspired by a native clover. The Ancient Celts with their deep understanding and connection with nature, revered the clover because of the trinity of its leaves, believing it warded off evil with mystical powers. It is popular today as a lucky talisman. As symbols of continuity, timelessness and eternity, knotwork and interlaced designs represent eternal spiritual development; life, death and rebirth, all points on a line without beginning or end. Knotwork is also representative of the connection between all of Creation, and is the supreme symbol of love and friendship.
